

HISTORY
.Its origins go back to the year 742, when the relics of the Apostle Saint Andrew
(often referred to as St Andrews Cathedral) is a ruined Roman Catholic cathedral in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. It was built in 1158 and became the centre of the Medieval Catholic Church in Scotland as the seat of the Archdiocese of St Andrews and the Bishops and Archbishops of St Andrews.

It fell into disuse and ruin after the Catholic mass was banned during the Scottish Reformation of the sixteenth century. It is currently a monument in the custody of historic Scotland. The ruins indicate that the building was approximately 119 m (390 ft) long and is the largest church that has been built in Scotland.

IT WAS DESTROYED
BY VARIOUS EVENTS,
BUT ONE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE WAS THE PROTESTANT REFORM.
1) Before it was completed, in the year 1270 its west side was destroyed by a sudden gust of cold wind.
2) In 1378 the church caught fire and was rebuilt.
